Join Heart of Ellsworth onsite at the Water Street Mural for a freestyle kids painting activity to connect with the Water Street Mural project in progress across the parking lot. This hands-on activity will demonstrate the importance of public art in community spaces. Children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult. Materials (latex paint) will be provided and children should wear clothes that can come home with paint on them! This activity is free of charge and weather dependent, with no rain date.

Markings Gallery is pleased to join the MCA Studio Tour Weekend this year! We represent over 50 Maine artisans and you will be able to visit a few in the gallery, talking about their work with some demonstrating parts of their techniques. You can ask questions of them and watch while in the process of creating their pieces. As the maker of the Heirloom Flower Press, I will happily give demonstrations on using the press, storing the material and creating with plants that have been collected and dried. Along with this, I will have my wooden Botanical Split picture frames which are used to simply showcase beautiful plant pressing, without any embellishments. These frames are constructed to easily remove and add material.
Also, as an educator in the art of carving woodenware, with classes that I run in my studio, I will have some projects on display and will be demonstrating spoon carving techniques with the hand tool skills that are taught in the spoon carving classes.

Join us at A Fierce Chase XC Ski Trails for a leisurely walk through the woods on mowed trails, led by a biologist. The terrain is gentle for all abilities. This year's Maine Craft Weekend coincides with PorFiber's 9-Year anniversary! We are looking forward to celebrating with Maine makers Katherine Ferrier of Threadwrite, Wade Stephens of Husk, and Rachel Bingham Kessler of 44 Clovers. Katherine is a poet, dancer, maker, teacher, curator, and community organizer. She will be here with her patchwork clothing and accessories and will be writing typewriter poems on the spot that might just make you weep. Wade is a textile artist with a heavy focus on wool. Inspired by color, texture, and natural forms, they will be showcasing their felted handbags and accessories. Rachel is a plant dye educator, writer, sewist, and painter with a degree in Art Education. She works annually, sourcing Maine fleeces to be spun into yarn, which she then dyes with natural, local plants and other natural dyes. Come squish these beauties and celebrate all things fiber with us!

Tandem Glass is a hand blown glass studio centrally located in Mid-Coast Maine. Saturday we will be firing up our new wood fired pizza oven for our visitors (suggested donation to MCA) enjoy a slice (as supplies last) or bring your own fixings. Sunday we will be serving muffins from the residual heat.
The hot shop will not be doing demonstrations this year, however the gallery space will be open. We follow CDC recommendations for open air exchange and ask visitors to space themselves according to capacity.

The gallery at Engine in Biddeford with be open both Saturday and Sunday from 11 AM - 2 PM showcasing our Compass Project Boat building exhibition, Tides Rise Us All: 20 years of the Compass Project. Plus guests will be able to meet some of the artists and makers that call the Engine studios home.
The Compass Project was founded in 2002 in Portland Maine with the goal of engaging youth in hands-on, experiential, and cooperative learning through the building of wooden boats. In 2015, Engine adopted the Compass Project and partnered with local schools and colleges to bring boat building to their classrooms. In 2019 the Covid 19 pandemic forced a dramatic shift in how Compass classes were taught. Instead of in-person collaborative boat building, students were taught similar skills virtually through the building of model boats. In recent years, as restrictions have eased, we have returned to in person classes at Biddeford High School with renewed focus on helping youth develop a more meaningful relationship community and environment. Today, in addition to building boats, Compass students work on independent projects, exploring areas of personal interest, and work on projects for organizations within our Biddeford community, allowing students to see their contributions in the real world. Compass Project has brought together thousands of individuals and families through the joy of launching these vessels into the world. Tides Rise Us All is a celebration of the work completed by Compass students in the past year as we set a new course.
Featuring the work of many hands, this exhibition invites you to respond to the question, “What Anchors You?” and will seed a series of events and engagements with our 2022-2023 Compass Project Youth.
The Benson Forge is a working recreation of R.P. Benson & Son, Horse Shoeing; one of Kennebunkport’s landmark businesses. The shop is fitted out with Benson’s original tools, photography, memorabilia and diaries that record the history of Kennebunkport in the early 1900s. Visitors to the working forge can learn about the art of the farrier’s trade from blacksmith, Nathan Blakemore.
Local metalsmith, Ann Thompson, will be hosting visitors next door in the Barn with demonstrations of pewter casting and family-friendly "drop in" activities."
Metalwork will be for sale to benefit the Kennebunkport Historical Society.

No Repeats Fiberworks, Jo Eaton, will be demonstrating handspinning and crocheting of her one of a kind hats. You will have the opportunity to try your hand at spinning and crocheting as well. A wide variety of hats, from simple beanies, to very warm handspun to her designer landscape hats will be available. Patterns and yarns are available for some of the hats.

Yakisugi Fire Art Workshop. Sat & Sun 12:00 - 16:00 both days. Participants will have a hands-on opportunity to put flame to wood. Yakisugi developed in Japan as a solution to the destructive forces of Mother Nature. Sometimes called Shou Sugi Ban.
You apply as much or as little flame to a wood object, demonstrating the protective nature of fire. Apply additional flame to experience a noetic transformation. Take home your personalized artistic expression. The flame does all the work!
Creative expression is a scientifically proven method to end burnout. Originally used for exterior siding and roofing to counteract the salty sea air destroying wooden houses. Burning wood creates a layer of carbon protecting the inner wood core.
Wood Object Considerations:
You will hold the wood object with metal tongs. This factors into the weight of the object and shape of the object. Make sure there is an anchor point to hold the object. Round objects are problematic.
You will use both hands at all times while burning. Adaptations and accommodations possible with Instructor involvement.
You have total agency where the flame goes. Applying the flame to the wood object is the best choice.

The Ellsworth Historical Society will be hosting an event at the Old Jail Lawn, on State street in Ellsworth, from 1-3 pm in the afternoon of our "Art of Ellsworth" event on Saturday October 1. We have a coloring activity to allow visitors to envision the colorful future we are creating for this jail, as we dive into a grand restoration project, fueled by the receipt of grants from the Maine Community Foundation, The Maine DownTown Center’s Main Streets Foundation and private donors.
Use your creativity to color in our beautiful building on a page with room for free expression. Currently the Hancock County Sheriff’s Home and Old Jail is a prominent feature of our historic district in downtown Ellsworth, and serves as a repository for artifacts and living history of the county seat and it’s colorful inhabitants. The Ellsworth Historical Society is partnering with many in the community to create more opportunities to share our history. Come by our lawn stand and contribute your colorful artistic talents to envision the future.
Corn husk dolls are some of the earliest toys created by Native Americans and later adopted by European settlers. See this traditional craft by corn husk doll maker Betty La Forge. Although a common toy throughout the 19th century, this craft is not often seen today. This demonstration is being done by a member of the Bucksport Historical Society at their museum, located at the historic railway station.
Open studio all day. Circling the Square Fine Art Press member Kris Sader will be printing a 3-plate color monotype on press. This is an exciting way to develop original imagery and serial prints.
Join Maggie and Bill Iannuzzi at Precipice Coffee for a demonstration of the unique roast process on their zero emissions Bellwether Coffee Roaster - the first of its kind in Maine. In addition to sourcing organic and fair-trade beans, the coffee at Precipice is produced with zero carbon emissions and is sold in eco-friendly packaging. They will also show you how to make a Pumpkin Spice Latte featuring local Maine pie pumpkin puree. Other coffee and tea beverages as well as home baked goods will be available. Roasting demonstration starts at 2pm.
Todd Watts will give a talk and answer questions about the “Made not Taken” exhibition at the Gascoine Gallery, on October 2, between 2 and 4pm.
The exhibition comprises the work of seven artists, and photographers all, inventing and innovating within the photographic medium. They create images that do not document events. Their artworks are the events.
Each of these artists has been a resident at Monson Arts, the Abbott Watts Residency, or produced their work at the Watts Studio.

For 26 years, Lori Benson has traveled to the southern Mexican state of Chiapas to work with the Highland Maya. At first, it was part of a continuing project with the Science Museum of Minnesota. Currently, she and colleagues are developing a virtual space to gather archives, photographs, textiles, and artifacts for communities, museums, students, and scholars. Her talk will focus on the stories, the relationships, and the hope for the future. Available in-person and on Zoom.

For the 2021 Belfast Poetry Festival, artist Rebecca Goodale and poet Jefferson Navicky rented a campsite for a week in September at Wolfe’s Neck Farm Campground near where they both live. For their Campsite Residency, they spent the week creating images of tents, writing swimming poems, doing some actual swimming, and walking the campgrounds in search of new and compelling tent structures to draw. The result of this process was their collaborative project, “Future Tents." Later that year, Rebecca created an artist’s book of the same name, which included Jefferson's poem and hand-colored drypoints.
Please join Rebecca & Jefferson as they talk about their collaboration, the importance of self-made residencies, and the general creative spirit necessary to collaborate. Jefferson will read a few poems and Rebecca will exhibit her artist's book, Future Tents as well as unframed drypoints and serigraphs inspired by Wolfe’s Neck farm and campground.
The public is encouraged to participate in this lively dialogue about artistic collaboration in Freeport.

We have a spacious classroom where you can work on your projects, or take them home and bring them back at your convenience to go in the kiln. On foot and by bicycle, Tree scans the streets of Maine for lost and tossed items -- keys, springs, toys, disposable straws, and all manner of roadside debris -- then stitches them onto fabric to create new narratives for the repurposed objects. D.E.D. often ventures into the territories of the Allman Brothers Band, Santana, The Band, Rolling Stones, Phish and more. The opener will be The Wayside, a Maine-based power trio (Matt Johnston, James Rea and Corey Smelley) a blend of blues, rock, and funk reminiscent of the 60’s & 70’s.

Maine Craft Portland proudly presents a solo exhibition by Deb Butters, a multidisciplinary artist native to Maine. Much of Butters’ childhood was spent outdoors foraging: “My pockets were (and are) always full; and even now my home is full of containers of shells, rocks, sticks and natural treasures that I incorporate in my work.” Always fascinated with the world around her, Butters’ has explored a variety of mediums in her 40+ year artistic career.
“I grew up working with my hands with varied exposure to many arts and artisan skills from family, neighbors, and other teachers. Many dolls benefited from this love of creating fabric items. Later puppets and stuffed animals took shape. My dad and uncle taught me to carve and work with wood. Next was pottery, bead work, and metal smithing. I designed my own jewelry, clothing, and decor. In my late 40’s I began painting and illustration of my own books and expanded once again. I learned welding, and I cut forms from steel sheets at SMCC while earning my degree in engineering/architecture. For two years I had stewardship of an art program for developmentally challenged adults at a local program working alongside Arts for All Maine in a juried show at the Portland Museum of Art as well as starting programs for visiting artists and art programs at night stressing community integration.”
It is this varied exposure to many arts and artisan skills that brings Butters’ to where she is today. Each step of her journey is a culmination of these art forms with a concentration on Fiber Arts, where it all began. The process of finding new meaning for something and helping to translate it into that vision is central to the work. “Be it humor, beauty or both, a piece grows and changes until it gains its finished form, sometimes surprising me with the outcome.”

Forgotten Industry and Institutions of Maine is a new title by Arend Thibodeau which uncovers Maine’s forgotten past by exploring remnants and artifacts left behind.
Maine has its share of industry, some current and some obsolete. Over the last century, many industrial practices have grown and flourished while others have vanished entirely. Likewise, state institutions have seen vast changes in their structures and methods of operation.
Changes to our industry and institutions have left behind artifacts of a bygone era. Many of these artifacts are demolished, replaced, or vanish further into obscurity. This book offers a visual tour of our forgotten past and practices in hopes of preserving history to prevent it from vanishing entirely. Readers will explore an abandoned jail built in 1873 (in which its first prisoner was convicted of killing two people with an axe), visit The North Maine Woods in search of ghost trains abandoned in the wilderness close to a century ago, and much more.
Forgotten Industry and Institutions of Maine contains images, interesting facts, personal anecdotes, and the stories that make these places unique and give them their distinctive character.
Arend Thibodeau resides in Harmony, Maine with his wife, and has been a professional photographer since 1996. His photography has won awards in galleries as far away as Athens, Greece and he has been published in multiple genres ranging from wildlife to portraiture.
In pursuit of his passion for writing, Arend returned to academia and attended the University of Maine in Orono where he earned dual degrees in art and English literature. While attending the university, Arend was published with his poetry, non-fiction, and academic writing. He graduated summa cum laude in 2021 with membership in multiple honor societies including Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society.
When not working in the field, or writing, Arend enjoys teaching photography and playing bass in a local rock band.
Mentors + Apprentices: Work from Maine + New Hampshire's 2023 Craft Apprentice Program opens Friday, October 6, 5-7pm
The Maine Craft Association’s Craft Apprentice Program, developed and offered in partnership with the Maine Arts Commission & the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen, provides mentor craft artists and apprentices the opportunity to learn, create and connect. The program is designed to advance and expand the apprentice's craft studio practice and professional experience.
Nine mentor artist + apprentice pairs were selected for the 2023 program cycle (six from Maine, three from New Hampshire) and have worked side by side for seven months. Apprenticeships focused on natural dyeing & hand weaving, book arts, wood instrument creation, printmaking, leather working, pottery foundational skills, Nerikomi ceramics, tile making & more!
New work created during the apprenticeship period will be on view in the 2023 Craft Apprentice Program capstone exhibition, on view at Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts, October 6 - 30, 2023.
The opening reception is free and open to the public! Join us in celebrating the achievements of the nine 2023 apprenticeships on Friday, October 6, 5-7pm at Watershed’s Barkan Gallery (103 Cochran Road, Edgecomb). Galleria Gardella is a haven for handmade treasures including mixed media paintings, whimsical canvas sculptures, and guest artisans who create pottery, wreaths, wooden puzzles, cutting boards, lamps, baskets, clothing and signs. Greenville is on the shore of beautiful Moosehead Lake so this will make the perfect outing to visit our gallery and wander our region. Refreshments will be available throughout the weekend.
Maybe you want to enjoy a cup of coffee. Maybe you are tired and need to rest. Maybe you just want to people-watch. No matter what the reason is, it is important to be comfortable. You can find 18 artist-designed, painted, and assembled chairs throughout downtown Belfast from Post Office Square, along High Street to below the Park on Main.
When the OTB Design Committee identified a need for additional seating throughout downtown, the idea of an iconic Adirondack chair was immediately discussed. However, the committee knew the traditional design would need to be reimagined to make it accessible for people with mobility issues. Working with local craftsman Doug Bell, the seat width and height were increased, the arm width increased, and the “dip” in the back of the seat was eliminated. The redesign has been tested by community members with various mobility issues; each of the testers had no problems getting in or out of the chairs.
Each chair has been hand-painted by local artists and individually sponsored by community members/businesses. Each chair has a plaque representing the sponsors and a plaque identifying the artist!
“HERE IS MAGIC” PUBLIC ART PROJECT
A Nod To Waterfall Arts’ Long History of Community Collaboration
Belfast, ME — June 1, 2023 — Waterfall Arts’ new collaborative public art project “Here is Magic” further solidifies its role as an anchor of the Midcoast art community. This modular 32-panel mural design, using a hive of hexagons, “is a mark of respect for both the individuality of our community members and the power of collaboration in Maine,” as proposed by local mural artist and Waterfall Arts’ Public Art Liaison Peter Walls and Waterfall Arts’ Program Director Amy Tingle.
Over thirty local artists are set to participate by completing individual reflective narratives on the theme of home. When joined together, these panels will form a whole; a creative placemaking that will highlight and celebrate the natural assets of Midcoast Maine. Waterfall Arts is an active home, a nest, an incubator for the fine arts, a hive of energy and inspiration for the entirety of the Midcoast and beyond.
This public mural project is a springboard to create deep and more meaningful collaborations between Midcoast artists, art organizations, and regional entities. By fairly compensating the artists, engaging and educating them about how to be more active community members, as well as teaching them new ways to be self-sustaining in their studio practices, Waterfall Arts cultivates a creative community that can grow and ultimately support itself.
Local artist and project co-coordinator Peter Walls says, “One of the most engaging roles of public art today is to enliven or reinterpret public spaces like Waterfall Arts. Our project ‘Here Is Magic’ was created in order to allow artists a chance to be seen and heard outside of the gallery system, educating them about the creation of Public Art, while also establishing the newly renovated building as a beacon for the Arts and Culture of the region.”
The mural will fill the blank wall on the south side of the Waterfall Arts’ building, organically working its way around the corner to the front, which faces High Street. Although this is the initial installation design for the mural, it may not be the only one, and Waterfall Arts, through their existing partnerships with the local community, is hoping to plan other smaller, temporary installations of the panels throughout Waldo County in order to further facilitate community collaboration, fostering new relationships to grow the hive.

Just behind the Ellsworth Public Library on the banks of the Union River is River Walk North's Self guided kids story walk. A partnership with Ellsworth Garden Club, Frenchman Bay Conservancy, Green Ellsworth and the Ellsworth Public Library features All Along the River, author-illustrator Magnus Weightman, a story about a Bunny Rabbit who has lost her toy duck! Bunny and her brothers jump in their boat and head down the river in search of Little Duck. Their journey takes them from the mountaintop to the open sea, but there are many other adventures for readers to follow along the way.

The Heart of Ellsworth Water Street Mural project was born in 2019 with the committee meeting for two years to develop the project. By partnering with the Ellsworth Historical Society, historical images of Ellsworth’s past inspired the community mural. Muralist Judy Talyor and more than 24 volunteers painted the mural with Maliseet visual artist Mihku Paul being welcomed to add the final touches to the mural completing the project in fall of 2022. In Spring of 2023 a interactive QR code was installed on the wall for viewers to scan with the camera on their cell phones that will take viewers to the mural page for more information on the significance of each reveal of the Water Street Mural.

Take a self guided tour of Ellsworth's history with Museum in the Streets. Ellsworth’s history is proudly showcased on 19 different locations around town. Your journey can begin at either of the large information panel at Knowlton Park or downtown on State Street just in front of Mac Revival. This project was initiated by an informal group of residents from Ellsworth’s business community, representatives from the Historical Society, Historic Preservation Commission, Heart of Ellsworth and Chamber of Commerce who collaborated on the project. Many hours were spent studying Ellsworth history, selecting photographs, writing accompanying narration, and determining site locations.
During this 45-minute indoor cycle class we will embark on our signature meditation ride. The studio will be filled with art, various mediums, from local Saco-based artist Ramune Bulmer. Ramune's art is inspired on her Lithuanian roots, Maine, nature and the supernatural. This ride will be aligned with the emotion and intention of the art allowing participants to connect with the work at a more personal level, as we sweat and meditate. The artist will kick us off by sharing the intention and meaning behind her pieces.
The studio will remain open for an hour after class, accompanied by light refreshments, to allow individuals to speak with the artist and view the artwork in more detail.
Ellsworth Community Music Institute presents our Instrument Petting Zoo. Some of our teachers will be showing off their instruments, allowing young children 4 and up to touch, play and experience them in person. Join us at the Ellsworth Public Library from 9-11 to hear some music and experience hands-on interactions with our instructors and their instruments.
Join us for the 9th annual Fiber Day at the Bath Freight Shed. Local fiber artists will be weaving, spinning, knitting, hand sewing, felting, and doing rope work, much like that used in Virginia's rigging. See techniques both modern and dating from the 17th century. Some artists will offer hands-on opportunities as well as demonstrations.
Saturday October 7th, come over to Elements from 9am - 1pm to check out Sean Brewer's mobile shop. As October's featured artist, he will have shirts, prints, stickers, and more available for purchase. Later that evening from 6:30 - 8pm come by for a coffee or beer and enjoy Jason Roman's live music.

This is our 5th annual Penquis Valley HS Craft Fair (we missed 2 years due to COVID). Local craft and food artisans, artists, and authors, along with school clubs and community non-profits offer a variety of item. There is also a basket raffle and lunch options available. Proceeds from the event support student activities.
The Biddeford Mills Museum will be open from 9am until 4pm on Saturday 10/7/23. There will be two showings of our popular 30-minute film, A Walk Through History. The first showing at 11am and the second showing at 2pm.
Woodcarvers from the Greater New England Area and beyond participate in the 2023 Show with carvings that are judged and receive awards according to the carving level and quality. Theawards will be given at 3 PM. There will be carving classes to take and demonstrations to watch. Carving vendors will be there including tools that can be purchased and the carvings are displayed for viewing until about 4 pm. Food is available for purchase at the Lions Club.
Bare Bones Handsewn, a traditional handsewn shoe making factory will open their doors for the weekend. Providing workshop tours and shoe making demonstrations. The Bare Bones Handsewn makers market will be set up for moccasin purchases and offer the opportunity to place custom design or fit orders. We will have make-and-take custom jewelry making and leather cuff demonstrations. As well as a local artisan pop-up market featuring a few of our favorite makers.

Join us during Maine Craft Weekend in Belfast for a botanical dye workshop with professional fiber artist Jude Hsiang. This 3-hour workshop invites participants to learn about the ancient and continuing art of using natural materials from plants, insects and minerals to permanently dye a wide range of fibers. This class may be of special interest to quilters as we will dye cotton fabrics with madder (Rubia tinctorium) a classic dye plant that can be grown in Maine and gives a range of shades from pinks to reds to purples. Other fibers and dyes will be sampled, and all are welcome to join the fun. The instructor will share knowledge gained in her many years as a natural dyer through finished works, dye record books, and samples of dyestuffs. Note-taking and photos are welcome. A resource handout will be provided.
About the instructor: Jude Hsiang has been dyeing with natural materials for 45 years and teaching the craft for 12. She is particularly interested in exploring the use of Maine-grown fibers—wool, alpaca, mohair, angora, linen, and hemp—that are spun in Maine by hand or in local mills. She grows a dozen or so varieties of dye plants in her Central Maine garden and forages more in the wild. She also uses traditional dyes and fibers from around the world. A knitter, weaver, and stitcher, Jude enjoys putting her results to work in an array of items and selling naturally dyed yarns.

Every October we turn the hot glassblowing shop into a "Glass Pumpkin Patch" for Maine Craft Weekend. We will be pulling out all the stops to celebrate and share our love of glass and other crafts with you!!
Linda Perrin and her team of glassblowers delight in creating a hub of arts activities while they demonstrate their glassblowing craft to the public. Come to the warehouse to watch traditional glassblowing all day as they make glass pumpkins in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and colors! Other local artisans will be showing and selling their crafts during the event. Fine jewelry, pottery, prints, and more... and Fogtown Brewery, located in the same building, will be slinging beverages and wood-fired pizza!
A group of Bar Harbor artists and makers are coming together for a Pop Up Market as part of Maine Craft Weekend. Ann Jenkins will be selling a collection of sterling and mixed media jewelry. Mary Lyman will be selling her handmade BFF Dolls. Suzanne Norgang of The Wretched Briar will be selling her handfelted wool hats. Jeanne Seronde Perkins will be selling her collages in 3D: paper mache stars + other creatures embellished w/ hand painted papers. Celebrate Maine Craft Weekend at Handworks Gallery in Blue Hill
Handworks Gallery will be hosting a pop-up trunk show featuring the jewelry by Janelle Delicata on Saturday, October 7, 2023 from 10 am to 4 pm as part of the Maine Crafts Weekend.
The gallery’s collection includes works of more than 100 local and Maine artists. Many are Maine Crafts Association members. Handworks is located in the center of the village of Blue Hill at 48 Main Street.

Improv Theme & Variation
A single block pattern can yield an infinite number of variations. In this workshop, we’ll use improvisational patchwork to explore repetitions and variations on a theme. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of the design elements of structure and composition, while building confidence in working with improvisation to create quilt tops that reflect your own voice. Bring a favorite traditional or original block pattern to work with. (See below for ideas.)

Materials:
A total of 3-5 total yards will be ideal for this workshop, based on your preference for working large or small, and how fast (or slow) you typically work. This total should include mostly solids, supplemented with prints and/or yarn-dyed wovens in a variety of values and hues. Your overall fabric palette should be simple and reflect the composition of the quilt block pattern you are bringing. For instance, if your quilt block pattern has three parts, select three main colors and broaden your selection for each by bringing several related fabrics that represent that one color.

Your experience will feel more successful (and you’ll have more fun) if you reduce your block choice to its most elemental form. Complexity and secondary patterns emerge through overall composition. Blocks like the examples below are all excellent. The blocks as shown have two main colors.

To Prepare:
Online, take a look at the Quilt Index. You can search by pattern names, or by “one patch”, or “four patch”. Either of these search terms will yield good references and ideas for this class.
Your local library will likely have one of the following books, or something like it. A little time perusing any of these is perfect preparation for the class. Bring a sketchbook to the library for visual note-taking.

I will be at the Maine Craft Weekend to demonstrate different types of basket weaving using a mold, without a mold and using a wooden base. Maine crafts artists will gather at the downtown warehouse to demonstrate and show their work. Artisans plan to fill the gallery and parking lot with autumn inspired work for sale. Artisans who make pottery, weaving, fiber art, house wares, painting and sculpture will be showing and demonstrating and discussing how they make their work. As usual at this annual harvest season event, you can watch the Atlantic Art Glass team create blown glass pumpkins. The studio of Atlantic Art Glass will be turned into a glass pumpkin patch as the molten glass is pulled from the furnace, blown and hand formed on the end of a blowpipe. The glass pumpkin patch charms visitors of all ages. Fogtown brewery located in the building, will be slinging wood fired pizzas and their delicious and creative brews including cider, beer, wine and seltzers.

We started J Schatz in 2004 as a place for playful, glossy, and bright utilitarian objects, art, and decor that were engaging and fun. Our handmade ceramics appeared as if they were machine made because of the methods we developed to create a precise, refined object that was glazed to mirror-finish perfection. The line was modern and many of the items have become design classics. Peter joined the company in 2014 and encouraged unique forms, textures, and finishes that were brutal, earthbound, and primitive.
Together we are fearless and in private we call our life together P&J's adventure. In search of an inspired spot to locate the studio they moved from upstate New York to Los Angeles then Providence and finally to Boothbay Harbor, Maine where we setup the studio in a barn located in a place known as Powder Hill Farm. A beautiful spot with birds, gardens, untamed forests, and a history rich with stories from the Revolutionary War. Definitely an inspired spot to continue the evolution of our work.

Mill Pond Ceramics Studio will be hosting a Grand Re-Opening in their newly expanded space inside the North Dam Mill. Basic Bead Making techniques, as well as some more advanced methods used to incorporate semi precious metals, ashes, and using multiple colors to create depth and design and the structural techniques used to build hollow beads on a bead mandrel.
Amanda will demonstrate mordant printing: an ancient technique for producing patterns and designs on fabric with natural dye colors. Mordants, or metallic salts such as alum and iron, are applied to fabric using blocks or paint brushes. When the piece is introduced to the dye bath, colors from the plant dyes show up in different shades on the cloth. It’s a fun and magical process that offers endless possibilities for creative expression.
Amanda Affleck of A Skirt of Leaves Textiles is a fiber artist, natural dyer, and weaver living in midcoast Maine. She loves to teach natural dye techniques and to share the creative inspiration that comes from a close collaboration with nature to make meaningful and beautiful pieces of textile art.

Social Fabric is a series of workshops exploring the power and potential of art and co-creation to build connection and belonging in our communities. Workshop offerings are from artists working in various processes, including printmaking, book arts and textile techniques. Participants will explore the material meanings and rich metaphors of thread and fabric to imagine new ways of weaving together a stronger social fabric through making and connecting.

We’re partnering with Johnson Hall to create an outstanding music lineup of Maine’s best and emerging bands.
Crowd pleasing quirky games will include favorites and new additions. For the 8th year, participants will groom, style, and dress their facial hair in the hope of being named “best in show” in the crowd favorite Beard and Mustache Competition.
The intense Rock Paper Scissors Championship, Corn Hole, Giant Jenga and a Frozen T-shirt Race and a Pass The Pigs tournament!

Gardiner wood turner, Glen Glazier will share his passion for wood turning while demonstrating techniques of turning small bowls, pens and handles.
Glen will be located inside the Swine and Stein event, in front of Monkitree. A percentage of his sales will go to Maine Veteran Woodturners.
Demos are scheduled for 12, 2 and 3pm.
Trove will have an open gallery (open to all our current Artists at Trove). Fling into Fall event in Downtown Searsport along with an Art Walk from 3:00 - 6:00

Join Heart of Ellsworth Design Committee Chair, Amy Reisman for a creative event where she will teach you how to create stunning holiday light displays from chicken wire and string lights. The sculptures created in this workshop will be used in a holiday light insulation at Merrill Park for the 2023 holiday session. All attendees will learn the basics of chicken wire sculpting using common tools, chicken wire and string lights. Whether you're a seasoned DIY enthusiast or a complete beginner, this workshop is perfect for everyone wanting to participate in the creation of community cheer while getting crafty at the same time.

Marshall Wharf Brewing Co. will host their Annual Beer Festival on Oct 7. There will be 40+ craft beers on tap, 2 bands, 3 food trucks, and a whole lot of laughs!
Families can drop in to the maker space at Mill Studio Arts to get crafty and make original works of art with a buffet of fun, mixed media materials! The maker space will be open from 2:00-4:00 on Saturday the 7th and 10:00-2:00 on Sunday the 8th.

Absorb the healing energy of houseplants that surround you in the plant shop as Kristy Verdel of Moon Lady Plants guides you through how to build your own terrarium! By sinking your hands a little deeper into organic soil and working with reiki attuned plants, this class will not only ground you but also have you tapping into your creative side. Top it off with a crystal tumble of your choosing + bring your creation home!
You will be planting into a unique glass terrarium while unwinding + taking in the energy of the reiki infused plants around you.
You will have the choice of creating a succulent, fern or cactus terrarium.
Cost is $55, includes glass terrarium, plants (either succulents, cactus or ferns), moss, pebbles, organic potting soil, 1 crystal tumble + instruction.
Class size is limited and they have been selling out quickly, so be sure to register asap.
Additional crystals provided by Lily & Quartz (based in Portland, ME) are available for purchase in the shop!
Terrarium Building takes roughly 45 minutes. Additional 15 minutes is allotted for questions and cleanup for the next round.

For the past twenty-six years Kaiulani Lee has been performing her one-woman play, A Sense of Wonder, based on the life and works of Rachel Carson. The play has been the centerpiece of conferences on conservation, education, journalism, and the environment. She has performed it at over one hundred universities, dozens of high schools, the Smithsonian Institute, the Albert Schweitzer Conference at the United Nations, and at the Department of Interior’s 150th anniversary. Act One takes place in Miss Carson's summer home as she is preparing to leave. Fighting cancer, she fears this may well be her last visit to her beloved Maine coast. Act Two begins two months later in the wake of the furor over her book Silent Spring. Carson is simultaneously battling the chemical industry, the government, and the press to get her message to Congress and the American people.

Autumn Seaweed Wreath & Autumn Moth Watercolor Workshop

Lakefront Pub in Monson Maine hosting a live band 3-6 pm. We also offer scratch made cooking for sale. Band is free to all patrons.
During this 60-minute yoga class the studio will be filled with art, various mediums, from local Saco-based artist Ramune Bulmer. Ramune's art is inspired by her Lithuanian roots, Maine, nature and the supernatural. This class will be aligned with the emotion and intention of the art allowing participants to connect with the work at a more personal level, as we sweat and flow. The artist will kick us off by sharing the intention and meaning behind her pieces.
The studio will be open the hour prior to class, serving light refreshments, to allow individuals to speak with the artist and view the artwork in more detail.
