Offshoots of Printerly Origins- A natural taproot is a strong central root from which other roots branch. Goodale and Patch make artwork that takes many different directions (books, sculpture, collage, painting) but stem largely from a background in printmaking.
See craftsmen at work in the historic Percy & Small Shipyard performing traditional skills like blacksmithing and wood carving. Plus, don't miss our summer exhibit Broadside: The Power of Print in the Maritime World, which explores the art, process, and history of print production. Open daily from 9:30 am to 5 pm.
The techniques of wood and ropework employed by shipwrights and ship riggers four hundred years ago might have been commonplace then, but now they are nearly lost arts. The volunteers of Maine's First Ship are working to preserve those skills through practical use in the reconstruction of the 1607 ship Virginia. Join us in the historic Freight Shed as we demonstrate the unique skills needed to bring and Elizabethan era ship to life.

The Maine Meadow & Cooks Garden, a large garden filled with examples of living in harmony with nature, embracing wild and pollinator gardening. This garden is filled with stone monoliths and a stone garden entrance all found on the property. Just a few blocks away, The Jewel Box Pollinator Garden at kdb ART Studio is a small space with wildflowers, herbs and pollinator plants. This garden features sitting areas, to watch the Winged Wonders flitting about the garden. All gardens were sourced locally with found objects, native plants and some fun features.
These gardens were created with the communities of plants that live here in Maine and serve the bugs, birds, bees and butterflies. All were built by the local Maine Meadow Makers.

Casco Bay Glassworks will be open for Maine Craft Weekend, offering glassblowing demos from 10-3 and the gallery will be open from 10-4. We will make pumpkins, leaves, skulls, and other fall related glass. The pumpkin patch will be stocked with freshly blown pumpkins.
Markings Gallery represents 60 of Maine's finest craftspeople and several will be demonstrating their craft including fiber artists, clay and metal workers, jewelers and others.
Workshop available at Patten Free Library for preregistered children ages 7 to 12 to learn, view and create art inspired by Maine illustrator, Dahlov Ipcar.
Artisans from this region will be selling and demoing their craft in front of the Historic Custom House on Sunday, October 3rd from 11-3 pm. Family + Dog friendly!
Join us for the 8th annual Fiber Day at the Bath Freight Shed. Local fiber artists will be weaving, spinning, knitting, hand sewing, felting, and doing ropework much like that used in Virginia's rigging. See techniques both modern and dating from the 17th century; a few have changed very little. Some artists will offer hands-on opportunities, as well as demonstrations. A special exhibit of textiles from the Highland Maya area of Chiapas, Mexico will also be on display.
Peace House Studio will open its doors to the public from 10 AM to 2 PM on Oct. 1st and 2nd. Stop by and say "hello" to the makers and see how the clothing is made. Items will also be available for purchase.
Please park at Fisher Mitchell school and walk over, it's only a block away. The studio is atop a flight of stairs and is not handicap accessible.

James Macdonald, an artist, luthier, and musician based in Burnham, Maine, builds electric solid body guitars featuring hand cut marquetry art. The Chocolate Church Gallery is featuring his remarkable work along with our retail space where other artists are featured.

We're hosting Maine artist and picture book author/illustrator Lucky Platt for our Saturday Story Time. Lucky's debut picture book Imagine a Wolf (Page Street Kids 2021) was a 2022 Maine Literary Award Finalist, and she'll be reading her book with you and sharing a bit about the craft of writing and illustrating. She'll also be leading a couple of super fun book-related art activities. Without giving too much away, let's just say that there will be wolves! Want to show your love for independent bookstores? Lucky will sign and personalize your copy of Imagine a Wolf, and we hear she has some amazing book goodies to give away, too.

Markings Gallery is pleased to join the MCA Studio Tour Weekend this year! We represent over 50 Maine artisans and you will be able to visit a few in the gallery, talking about their work with some demonstrating parts of their techniques. You can ask questions of them and watch while in the process of creating their pieces. The gallery will be featuring them from 10:30 AM to 5 PM on Saturday, October 1, and from 10:30 AM to 4 PM on Sunday, October 2.

For 26 years, Lori Benson has traveled to the southern Mexican state of Chiapas to work with the Highland Maya. At first, it was part of a continuing project with the Science Museum of Minnesota. Currently, she and colleagues are developing a virtual space to gather archives, photographs, textiles, and artifacts for communities, museums, students, and scholars. Her talk will focus on the stories, the relationships, and the hope for the future. Available in-person and on Zoom.
