The Art and Craft of 17th Century Shipbuilding

October 2 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

The techniques of wood and ropework employed by shipwrights and ship riggers four hundred years ago might have been commonplace then, but now they are nearly lost arts. The volunteers of Maine’s First Ship are working to preserve those skills through practical use in the reconstruction of the 1607 ship Virginia. Join us in the historic Freight Shed as we demonstrate the unique skills needed to bring and Elizabethan era ship to life.
