Kim Bernard will open her studio and PopUpCycler the weekend, sharing her upcycled sculpture, wares and wearables: aprons, messenger bags, totes, yoga bags, pouches, napkins, hats, earrings and waxed food wrappers... all made out of local recycled materials. Kim will also demonstrate how her plastic recycling machines work. Bring a #2 milk, water or juice jug and transform it into sculpture yourself.

We're hosting Maine artist and picture book author/illustrator Lucky Platt for our Saturday Story Time. Lucky's debut picture book Imagine a Wolf (Page Street Kids 2021) was a 2022 Maine Literary Award Finalist, and she'll be reading her book with you and sharing a bit about the craft of writing and illustrating. She'll also be leading a couple of super fun book-related art activities. Without giving too much away, let's just say that there will be wolves! Want to show your love for independent bookstores? Lucky will sign and personalize your copy of Imagine a Wolf, and we hear she has some amazing book goodies to give away, too.

Join Heart of Ellsworth onsite at the Water Street Mural for a freestyle kids painting activity to connect with the Water Street Mural project in progress across the parking lot. This hands-on activity will demonstrate the importance of public art in community spaces. Children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult. Materials (latex paint) will be provided and children should wear clothes that can come home with paint on them! This activity is free of charge and weather dependent, with no rain date.
Come learn about the fauna and flora of our region while enjoying the beauty of the woods during peak fall foliage. Join us at A Fierce Chase XC Ski Trails for a leisurely walk through the woods on mowed trails, led by a biologist. The terrain is gentle for all abilities. Our trails are located 1 mile down the Elliotsville Road off of Route 15/6 (Greenville Road) just north of downtown Monson. Look for our sign on the left. We will meet near the kiosk at the top of the parking lot. Dogs are welcomed, too!
Union River Book and Toy Co. supports many local artists, carrying adult and children's books by Maine authors along with gifts and toys handmade here in Maine. During Maine Craft Weekend, stop in at 11am on Saturday and Sunday and peruse while your kids listen to a selection from Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in anticipation of the local artists who will be performing the musical here in Ellsworth at The Grand. When we have finished reading let's see who can use their creativity to design and name a new candy or candy making machine out of Legos here in the store!
Stop in to see creativity in action! Mill Studio Arts is a kid-centered art studio located on the bottom floor of the historic Pepperell Mill in Biddeford, Maine. Come see what it's like to paint, draw, build and sculpt in a fun filled maker space for kids of all ages. We will be offering drop in building and creation labs for kids and families along with guided tours of the studio during Maine Craft Weekend. The Ellsworth Historical Society will be hosting an event at the Old Jail Lawn, on State street in Ellsworth, from 1-3 pm in the afternoon of our "Art of Ellsworth" event on Saturday October 1. We have a coloring activity to allow visitors to envision the colorful future we are creating for this jail, as we dive into a grand restoration project, fueled by the receipt of grants from the Maine Community Foundation, The Maine DownTown Center’s Main Streets Foundation and private donors.
Use your creativity to color in our beautiful building on a page with room for free expression. Currently the Hancock County Sheriff’s Home and Old Jail is a prominent feature of our historic district in downtown Ellsworth, and serves as a repository for artifacts and living history of the county seat and it’s colorful inhabitants. The Ellsworth Historical Society is partnering with many in the community to create more opportunities to share our history. Come by our lawn stand and contribute your colorful artistic talents to envision the future.

Regular prices range from $18-85, and projects are designed to be completed in less than an hour (they'll go in the kiln and be ready to pick up in about one week!) All the materials and instructions are included in your "kit", but you'll assemble the kit from a huge variety of choices. Because you don't have to do any cutting, these projects are great to do with kids! No experience needed, but someone is always around if you need encouragement. We have a spacious classroom where you can work on your projects, or take them home and bring them back at your convenience to go in the kiln. Just behind the Ellsworth Public Library on the banks of the Union River is River Walk North's Self guided kids story walk. A partnership with Ellsworth Garden Club, Frenchman Bay Conservancy, Green Ellsworth and the Ellsworth Public Library features All Along the River, author-illustrator Magnus Weightman, a story about a Bunny Rabbit who has lost her toy duck! Bunny and her brothers jump in their boat and head down the river in search of Little Duck. Their journey takes them from the mountaintop to the open sea, but there are many other adventures for readers to follow along the way.

Mary Lyman will be selling her handmade BFF Dolls. Suzanne Norgang of The Wretched Briar will be selling her handfelted wool hats. Jeanne Seronde Perkins will be selling her collages in 3D: paper mache stars + other creatures embellished w/ hand painted papers. Karen Ressel of The Flowered Apron will be selling aprons, potholders and baby cloths. Karen's bakery will be open and fully stocked with delicious baked goods. Monson Gallery Store Featuring Maine Artist products for Sale
Take a ride on the Downeast Scenic, an adventure that takes you back to a time of elegant travel in lovingly restored one-hundred-year-old passenger coaches. For roughly an hour and 45 minutes, leisurely roll along 12 miles of well-maintained tracks that were a huge part of Maine railroad history. Join us later that evening at Belleflower Brewing Co., located at 66 Cove Street, from 5 - 7 pm for an informal meet and greet and to view the annual RWS 6x6 Show. Each piece is 6” x 6” and up to 6” deep, an accessible and unifying format that showcases members' diverse styles and talents. The exhibit will be up through the end of November.
