The volunteers of Maine's First Ship are working to preserve those skills through practical use in the reconstruction of the 1607 ship Virginia. Trio has partnered with the Grand theater for a community effort and 10% of all sales will go towards the Grand Capital Campaign for a new HVAC system and enhanced seating. This is an exhibit of traditional and contemporary Shibori textile art. Shibori is an ancient Japanese process of folding, clamping, twisting, stitching, plaiting fabric and compressing it before dying in indigo to resist the dye from entering certain parts of the fabric.
This creates a 3-D effect on a 2-D surface. There are hundreds of patterns and processes.
Beyond the Blues also offers textiles that demonstrate color blending with natural dyes and other dyes using Shibori techniques. There will be wall hangings, scarves, and home décor items for sale.

Fiber Gallery Opening at No Repeats Fiberworks, a new gallery celebrating Color and Fiber. Jo Eaton, a Traditional Artist, has been creating one of a kind hats since 1972 and in 1995 began spinning her own yarns. The gallery will feature classical styes of winter hats and joyous flowers and landscapes from a wide variety of yarns, both handspun and blended. Please stop by to say hello, enjoy a fall apple or sip of cider from a local orchard and celebrate the coming of hat wearing season! On October 2, the public will have its first chance to visit At Home Modern, the tapestry weaving studio and classroom of Bobbie Tilkens-Fisher. Come take in breathtaking views of the St. George river, shop a selection of her sculptural wall hangings, sign up for private lessons & workshops and maybe even buy some weaving supplies!
Bobbie will be on hand to demonstrate her tapestry weaving techniques and answer questions.

Meet some of the artists at the Lighthouse Gallery. Jeff Longar will be demonstrating wood carving and wood boat half hull making at 11:00 a.m. and Lisa Oettinger will show how she makes her bead jewelry at 1:00 p.m. Demonstrations of Watercolor and Acrylic painting on furniture will take place throughout the day. Plus two local authors will be autographing and talking about their latest books: Roger Greene on his book about the Northern Maine Woods "In the Company of Trees" and Jane Harvey Meade on her book "Narrownook", based in Bucksport.
