Kittery Community Center 120 Rogers Road, Kittery

The Morgan Gallery at the Kittery Community Center is looking forward to exhibiting the works of David R. Jones, beginning with a reception on September 12 from 5:30 pm until 7:30 pm.

David R. Jones is an internationally renowned impressionist artist currently residing in Methuen, Massachusetts. He was born in North Wales, moved to England, then Paris, France, where he had his first show of Indian ink and brush paintings. His love for creating unique paintings finally came full circle in 2007, when he met international award winning artist, Sharon Morley, APS, who encouraged him to add color to his Indian ink works. David is a full-time artist and is president of the Methuen based Art Institute Group of the Merrimack Valley, and since 2018 has hosted a monthly “Art in the Studio” show at MCS.

Since 2017 David’s work has been shown in galleries around the world, including Paris France,  Beijing, Seoul, Tokyo, Brussels, Cologne and Aix-en-Provence. He has won several awards including the Toile D’Or De L”Annee 2015 by the Federation Nationale de la Culture Francaise for his 40” x 30” oil on canvas “Ten Years Before” and his work has been published in multiple international art books. He recently had a solo show of his oil paintings “Abstracts of the Common Place - Landscapes of Europe & the United States” in May and June, 2023, at the Ayer Lofts Gallery in Lowell, MA. He was part of the collective show at the Galerie Beaute Du Matin Calme in June 2024 and is scheduled to have a show in Tokyo in September, 2024, in parallel with his Morgan Gallery show at the Kittery Community Center beginning Thursday Sept 12, 2024.

The exhibit will feature paintings of landscapes from the US, France and England each with his own unique impressionistic approach and style.” My paintings reflect my feelings about the places I have visited, or the emotion I have experienced” he explained.

Bookbinding Workshop with Diana Arcadipone at Fiber + Vine

Fiber & Vine 402 Main Street, Norway

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 6 | 10AM-4PM

Make your own handmade journal, sketchbook, or photo album with guest teacher, Diana Arcadipone. Handmade books make a wonderful gift, and are a great way to exhibit unique fabric or papers you’ve collected.

Please bring light to medium-weight fabric to use for your book cover. Fabric should be a natural fiber like silk, linen or cotton. Synthetic fabric like polyester will not work, so if you’re not sure, bring a couple of options with you. Your fabric will need to be big enough to cover your book in one piece, so somewhere around 12 x 24” will work.

All other materials will be provided, but feel free to bring additional papers, buttons, or a clasp to personalize your project.

There will be a short break for lunch during this class. Students should bring a bag lunch or plan to grab food nearby.

Registration is required. Register here: https://www.fiberandvine.com/classes/bookbinding-workshop

Cardamom-Ginger Ghee Making Demonstration at the Conscious Cafe

Conscious Cafe 50 Church Street, Ellsworth

Join Chef Jesse Steiger as he clarifies butter and turns it into ghee. Ghee is a type of clarified butter originating from India. The milk solids are removed, meaning ghee has less lactose than butter. Traditionally, ghee has been used as cooking oil, an ingredient in dishes, and in Ayurveda therapies. Infusing herbs into the ghee, such as ginger and cardamom, is the best way to acquire the healing benefits of those herbs.

After the demonstration, participants are welcome to buy some ghee and take it home in their kitchens. Chef Steiger will share more about the health benefits of ghee and how he uses it in his own recipes. Space is limited and on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The demonstration will begin at 4:00 PM and end at 5:00 PM.
