Craft Apprentice Program: Capstone Exhibition Opening at Watershed

Mentors + Apprentices: Work from Maine + New Hampshire's 2023 Craft Apprentice Program opens Friday, October 6, 5-7pm

The Maine Craft Association’s Craft Apprentice Program, developed and offered in partnership with the Maine Arts Commission & the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen, provides mentor craft artists and apprentices the opportunity to learn, create and connect. The program is designed to advance and expand the apprentice's craft studio practice and professional experience. 

Nine mentor artist + apprentice pairs were selected for the 2023 program cycle (six from Maine, three from New Hampshire) and have worked side by side for seven months. Apprenticeships focused on natural dyeing & hand weaving, book arts, wood instrument creation, printmaking, leather working, pottery foundational skills, Nerikomi ceramics, tile making & more!

New work created during the apprenticeship period will be on view in the 2023 Craft Apprentice Program capstone exhibition, on view at Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts, October 6 - 30, 2023. 

The opening reception is free and open to the public! Join us in celebrating the achievements of the nine 2023 apprenticeships on Friday, October 6, 5-7pm at Watershed’s Barkan Gallery (103 Cochran Road, Edgecomb). Can't make it to the opening reception? The gallery will be open Monday - Friday, 1:30pm - 4:30pm, or by appointment, for the duration of the exhibit!

Katharine Watson Open Studio

Katherine Watson Studio 100 Brentwood Street, Portland, ME

Come visit Katharine Watson's Portland studio, and get a chance to pull your own print! We will have our presses set up and ready to go; you can try printing, take a walk in the garden, and have a chance to shop directly in the studio. The studio will be open from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, October 7th, and we will have everything you need to pull your own print!

Pickwick is a community print studio located in the SPACE Studios building at 536 Congress Street: a hub for professional artists in southern Maine.

We are a group of printmakers that share space and equipment to make our work, educate and activate our communities, and serve as a platform for our members to become or continue professional careers as artists.

On Saturday, October 5, 2024 stop by the studios located at 250 Anderson St, Portland from 12 - 5pm and wander 16,000 square feet of artist work spaces. Explore the life and works of 80+ artists working with diverse mediums, goals, backgrounds, ages, and experiences and watch live demonstrations including printmaking, felting, tiny stone house building, and wheel throwing.

RWS is a multimedia artist space and home to the Clay, Print, and Wood Departments. Our studios are a community where members share equipment, ideas, tools, and support. RWS aims to help artists reach their independent creative goals by providing access to shared equipment, tools, information, and community. Open studios only happen twice a year.
