Meet the makers and get a behind the scenes tour of our workshop where we up-cycle Maine lobster rope into unique nautical decor. Learn about and see the rope we collect, and our process to transform it from a waste material into vibrant and eco-friendly wreaths, doormats, pet leashes and more. You are welcome to a two-day event featuring answers to questions and demonstrations of woodworking skills, techniques and methods. On display (and at sale prices) will be a wide variety of recent and unique handmade furniture including chairs, tables, end tables, lamps, mirrors and small boxes. Jim Vander Schaaf provides highly desirable woodworking education and designs and builds custom furniture to client desires.
Kim Bernard will open her studio and PopUpCycler the weekend, sharing her upcycled sculpture, wares and wearables: aprons, messenger bags, totes, yoga bags, pouches, napkins, hats, earrings and waxed food wrappers... all made out of local recycled materials. Kim will also demonstrate how her plastic recycling machines work. Bring a #2 milk, water or juice jug and transform it into sculpture yourself.
Come make a collage from recycled books. We will use book pages, magazines, card stock and frames. Open to all ages.
Emi Ito, of Bath Maine, will be popping into the studios at 25 Pine St. Ellsworth ME to demonstrate her freestyle weaving during the weekend!
Emi Ito will be visiting Artsworth, the hub of creativity in Ellsworth Maine during Maine Craft Weekend. She will show her collection of fine and fun wearable scarves and accessories for sale. In the spirit of celebrating creativity, Emi will demonstrate her craft so others can see the magic of the making in person.
Emi Ito began her explorations in weaving from an early curiosity about form and texture which led her to take a Japanese Saori free-form weaving class, which emphasizes individual expression. The looms were already set up, and with few instructions, she says, “you could just pick your yarn and start weaving.” She has since studied and tried more traditional pattern-weaving techniques, but still prefers the freestyle method she first experienced in New York. It's infinitely unique and allows her to put her handiwork into each piece.
At the grand opening of Selene's Fly Shop you can try your hand at the art of fly tying. ALL ages welcome from 10-4 on Saturday, October 1. Fly Tying demonstrations by Selene of Maine will be happening throughout the day. She ties in her hands without the use of a vise as Carrie Stevens of Rangeley, Maine did nearly a hundred years ago. Carrie Stevens flies and artifacts will also be on display.
Join us in the historic Percy & Small shipyard and meet our volunteer blacksmiths and woodcarvers and see them demonstrate their trades. Then swing by the Boatshop to take a look at the craft of traditional boatbuilding. Lunch is also available on site at the Sail Shed by Long Reach Kitchen & Catering.

Every October we turn the hot glass blowing shop into a "Glass Pumpkin Patch".
For Maine Craft Weekend we will be pulling out all the stops to celebrate and share our love of glass and other crafts with you!!
Linda Perrin and her team of glassblowers delight in creating a hub of arts activities while they demonstrate their glassblowing craft to the public. Come to the warehouse to watch traditional glassblowing all day as they make glass pumpkins in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and colors!
Other local artisans will be showing and selling their crafts during the event. And Fogtown Brewery, located in the same building, will be slinging beverages and wood fired pizza too!

Come to the great neighborhood of Kittery Foreside to visit The Red Door Pottery Studio historic building where Elaine Fuller has been making pots for 15 years. Her Studio Assistant Hilary Rousselle will offer clay work demos. Their unique pottery will be on display and for sale. Refreshments will be provided. The seconds sale will benefit the local food pantry.

No Repeats Fiberworks, Jo Eaton, will be demonstrating handspinning and crocheting of her one of a kind hats. You will have the opportunity to try your hand at spinning and crocheting as well. A wide variety of hats, from simple beanies, to very warm handspun to her designer landscape hats will be available. Patterns and yarns are available for some of the hats.
Come see the inner workings of a busy papermaking studio and learn all about the craft of handmade paper. Stephanie will introduce you to a variety of fibers and techniques while sharing the process of turning pulp into paper. Watch her form sheets from the vat using her collection of unique papermaking tools, and peruse a wide variety of finished papers available. Linocuts by her husband Peter Hedstrom will also be on display.
Corn husk dolls are some of the earliest toys created by Native Americans and later adopted by European settlers. See this traditional craft by corn husk doll maker Betty La Forge. Although a common toy throughout the 19th century, this craft is not often seen today. This demonstration is being done by a member of the Bucksport Historical Society at their museum, located at the historic railway station.
Open studio all day. Circling the Square Fine Art Press member Kris Sader will be printing a 3-plate color monotype on press. This is an exciting way to develop original imagery and serial prints.
Join Maggie and Bill Iannuzzi at Precipice Coffee for a demonstration of the unique roast process on their zero emissions Bellwether Coffee Roaster - the first of its kind in Maine. In addition to sourcing organic and fair-trade beans, the coffee at Precipice is produced with zero carbon emissions and is sold in eco-friendly packaging. They will also show you how to make a Pumpkin Spice Latte featuring local Maine pie pumpkin puree. Other coffee and tea beverages as well as home baked goods will be available. Roasting demonstration starts at 2pm.
Jemma Gascoine will demonstrate how to build a trash can out of clay by partially throwing the base on a potter's wheel followed by further building by adding extruded coils.
